stupidity, but it is there to be explored and
studied. But what was really more important than
the total canon of McLuhan’s thought were the
usages made of McLuhan’s thought. And it was
essentially I think, the idea that this man had put
his finger on—the phenomenon of this time that
now is talked about in the German jargon
“zeitgeist,” and it’s come back with a vengeance,
because there were basic truths in what he spoke
and what he discerned. I don’t think he did like all
the so-called benefits of the modern information
technology, but that really for practical purposes
was not much considered by the people that were
touting him.
